What counts as a fake review

Google may remove reviews that violate their policies: spam, fake content, off-topic posts, conflicts of interest, or reviews from people who were never customers. A genuine customer who had a bad experience is not a fake review — even if you think they are wrong. See responding to negative reviews for those cases.

Common garage scenarios

  • A competitor or ex-employee posts without ever being a customer
  • Multiple one-star reviews appear on the same day from new accounts
  • A review mentions services you do not offer or a vehicle you have no record of
  • Someone reviews the wrong business but it appears on your profile

How to flag a review

  • Open your Google Business Profile and find the review
  • Click the three dots next to the review and select 'Report review'
  • Choose the reason that best fits — usually spam or fake content
  • Provide any evidence: no matching job card, wrong vehicle, etc.

While you wait for Google

Post a brief public reply: "We cannot find a record of this booking. Please contact us on [number] so we can investigate." That signals to future customers that the review may not be legitimate. Dilute the impact by collecting genuine reviews — see how to get more Google reviews. Check your overall standing with the review health checker.

Frequently asked questions

Can I remove a review just because it is unfair?
No. Google does not remove honest negative reviews from real customers, even if you disagree with them. You can respond professionally and invite the customer back.
How long does Google take to review a flag?
It varies — from a few days to several weeks. There is no guaranteed timeline. Post a calm public reply while you wait.
