Why replying to good reviews matters

Future customers read your responses as well as the reviews themselves. A garage that thanks people by name looks attentive; one that ignores five-star feedback looks indifferent. Replying also signals to Google that you manage your profile actively. This sits in our Reviews guides alongside Google reviews for garages.

What to include

  • Thank the customer by name if Google shows it
  • Reference something specific — the MOT, a diagnostic, a team member they praised
  • Keep the tone warm but professional
  • Invite them back without sounding salesy

Example responses

"Thanks, Sarah — glad the interim service went smoothly and we could get you back on the road quickly. See you for your MOT next year." That beats a generic "Thank you for your review!" Copy and adapt more examples from google review templates.

What to avoid

  • Copy-pasting the same reply to every review — Google and readers notice
  • Asking them to review again or share on social media in the reply
  • Oversharing vehicle details that could identify the customer
  • Ignoring reviews entirely while only focusing on negatives

For difficult feedback, see responding to negative reviews. Use the review health checker to track your overall profile, and AskMike Review Assistant to keep new reviews flowing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reply to every positive review?
Ideally yes, especially for newer garages building a profile. A brief thank-you shows you read feedback and care about customers. As volume grows, prioritise recent reviews and any that mention specific team members.
How long should a positive review response be?
Two or three sentences is enough. Thank them, mention something specific from their review if possible, and invite them back. Long replies look automated and add little value.
