Revenue between MOTs

Many garages focus on MOT reminders and miss the service work in between. A customer who MOTs annually but services elsewhere is half a relationship. Annual service reminders bring that work back to your ramps. Read our MOT reminders guide for the parallel MOT workflow.

Time vs mileage intervals

  • Manufacturer schedules often specify whichever comes first — 12 months or 10,000 miles
  • Low-mileage drivers need time-based reminders
  • High-mileage drivers need mileage-based prompts at check-in or via email
  • Record mileage at every visit in your digital service history

Message templates

"Hi [Name], your [Make Model] is due its annual service. Book online: [LINK] — [Garage Name]." Add a 'from' price if you can. Service reminders convert better when the customer knows what they are booking. Adapt wording from MOT reminder templates — same principles, different timing.

Filling quiet weeks

Service reminders help smooth seasonal dips. MOT demand clusters around expiry dates; services spread more evenly if you remind proactively. For complex intervals, see service interval reminders.

Automate the follow-up

Manual service chasing does not scale. AskMike Customer Reminders sends timed service and MOT reminders from your customer records. Use the MOT reminder revenue calculator to model combined MOT and service uplift.

Frequently asked questions

When should I send a service reminder?
Typically 2–4 weeks before the service is due based on time or mileage — whichever comes first. If you serviced the car 11 months ago at 30,000 miles, remind them before the 12-month or next mileage interval.
Can I combine service and MOT reminders?
Yes, when they fall close together — but keep messages separate if they are months apart. A combined message in March for a service due in June and an MOT due in August confuses customers.
