Beyond annual reminders

Annual service reminders suit many customers, but manufacturer schedules vary — 10,000 miles, 12,000 miles, 18 months, long-life oil. Service interval reminders use the right trigger for each vehicle. Accurate digital service history is essential.

Setting intervals in your system

  • Record make, model and engine where possible
  • Default to manufacturer schedule or your garage standard
  • Update after each service with new due date and mileage
  • Flag vehicles on fixed-price or fleet plans separately

Reminder messaging

"Your [Make Model] is due its [12,000 mile / annual] service. Book here: [LINK]." Specificity builds trust — generic 'time for a service' messages get ignored. Adapt templates from MOT reminder templates.

Service and MOT reminders work together. A customer due for both in the same month should get one clear message offering both jobs. Customers six months from MOT need a service reminder only. Coordinate both in MOT reminders and service workflows.

Frequently asked questions

What if the customer uses their car for very few miles?
Use time-based reminders. A car on 3,000 miles a year still needs an annual service on most manufacturer schedules. Mileage triggers alone will miss these customers.
Should I follow the manufacturer interval exactly?
For most mainstream vehicles, yes — it is what the customer expects and what protects the warranty. For older cars, you can recommend a sensible interval and note it on the job card.
